Within the framework of the European project CreArt 3.0 – Network for Cities and Creativity, the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa is organising the international conference Reflecting (on) Art Residencies in Venice, an afternoon of discussion and debate on the theme of artist residencies as cultural devices that foster mobility, research and artistic production in new and stimulating contexts.
The initiative will be held on Thursday 12 June 2025 at the Chiostro dei Santi Cosma e Damiano, on the Giudecca island, and is part of a programme that combines moments of theoretical dialogue, sharing of experiences and performative performances. Artist residencies represent an increasingly widespread way of supporting contemporary creation: they temporarily host artists in a place other than their city of origin – often in peculiar cultural or geographical contexts – to foster processes of exploration, exchange and production.
The conference, with free admission, will be held in two languages, Italian and English, with simultaneous interpreting service available for the audience. Following this, a buffet aperitif will be offered to participants under the portico of the Cloisters.
Closing the day will be a live set by Furtherset, a project by composer and visual artist Tommaso Pandolfi, currently in residence at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa. With Wounds of Melody (extended version), he presents an electronic set based on melodic loops, synthetic clusters and rarefied textures, developed from the album of the same name released on the Kohlhaas label in May 2025.
The event is organised with the collaboration of Erica Villa, Art and Science curator at DVRI, the Venetian Research and Innovation District, and with the support of the Venice City Council’s Service for Researching Sources of Funding, Planning, Managing and Reporting EU Projects. Angela Serino’s intervention is supported by the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
